As the Wax Dries
It’s been a little over six months since Freedom Wicks officially launched and while we may not be great at keeping up with blog posts, we’d like to assure you that we have been busy!
Perhaps the most exciting and most important achievement of the past six months is that Freedom Wicks was able to mail in its first donation to the Disabled American Veterans Foundation, hopefully the first of many. Thank you all so much for helping us to realize our dream of Empowering Veterans, One Wick at a Time!
Over the past few months, we have more than doubled the number of scents offered by Freedom Wicks, we have added glass mason jars to our line-up, and expanded into a line of Freedom Wicks Soaps. While the soaps may need a little longer for us to roll out the rest of the scents and finalize some processes, we are very happy with where we started, where we are, and where we hope to be.
Perhaps, just maybe, you’d like a glimpse into the future of Freedom Wicks. Well, look no further! Prior to Freedom Wicks, we knew that we wanted to do something that we could do ourselves, which would perhaps earn a little money on top of our day jobs, but more importantly we also knew that we wanted to make a difference in someone else’s life. Now, while that may sound like a lofty and fanciful goal, it does appear that we have located a niche for these desires. We realized that we could find a passion, such as chandlery, evolve it into a business platform, and use it as the driving catalyst for change. But, we realized two things: 1) this does not happen overnight and 2) this is too inconsistent. So, a dream was formed.
From the outset, we have been seeking to build up a set of core assets in the dream of launching the ultimate prize: A Freedom Wicks monthly subscription box. Essentially, the idea is three pronged:
- It provides a method of experiencing all of the scents and products offered by Freedom Wicks, at a discount via the box, without having to take overt action.
- It provides an ultimate goal for the business and lends a sense of direction to times when we seem to be ambling along a dark and lonely road.
- BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, and this is the real kicker, a subscription box service, charging on a monthly basis, provides consistency in our ability to pivot from a model wherein we cut checks to the DAV as we reach certain sales thresholds into a set monthly donation based upon 10% of the gross revenue of each month’s subscribers in addition to 10% of the previous month’s revenue from the website, craft shows, and other events.
You see, Freedom Wicks is not so much a business as an idea, albeit an idea in the form of an LLC. That idea is simple: to make a small sacrifice on our side in order to create a true, long-lasting impact upon someone else’s life, even if we never have the pleasure of knowing them. There are so many brave men and women in the U.S. who have given up so much for their country that we feel it is our duty, our obligation to sacrifice what is essentially an inconsequential amount when the back-drop is improving the life of someone who made a true sacrifice for this Great Nation.
We are continuing to expand the product line-up and we have some pretty big ideas in the future. We ask for your continued patience and support and if you’d like to know why things sometimes seem slow-moving, we have a reason for that too. You see, the past six months have been tumultuous as Mitch has been traveling for various military trainings, the family is getting ready to move halfway across the country, we are having a baby (yay!), and generally life has been trying to get in the way. We are doing our best to stay on track and stay positive, we promise, and we will continue to move forward with Freedom Wicks… you just might have to excuse our pace sometimes.
If you keep an eye on your inbox and visit the website every now and again, we will be unveiling some new scents soon and maybe, just maybe, there will be a new and exciting treat (not edible, sorry) that might just be rung in with the new year! We will keep you apprised.
As always, thank you so much for being a part of the Freedom Wicks family. We truly could not have come this far, or have a chance of getting where we’re going, without all of your support and assistance. We hope you have a blessed and wonderful day and holiday season. If there is every anything we can do for you, please do not hesitate to reach out.
